The third edition of 1-54 Marrakech showcases 20 leading galleries from 10 countries focusing on contemporary art from Africa and its diaspora.
Its presence in Marrakech is a way for the fair to make its name on the African Continent and aims to build on the city’s creative energy fostered by its artists, galleries, and institutions.
Marrakech represents one of the continent’s most dynamic arts scenes.

Jean David Nkot was born in 1985 in Douala (Cameroon) where he lives and works. Preoccupied by human condition, violence, and the indifference and passivity of the international community and governments on the situation of victims around the world. Very inspired by the topic of immigration, bodies, and territories are structuring his artistic approach.

His new series "The Shadows of Space" questions the identity of people in exile, focusing on human condition and approaching this matter throughout the topic of immigration. Maps, bodies, faces, roads and everyday life objects featured in his works metaphorically embody a society, weakened by fear and the desire of control.
