Hands: Fenix museum | Rotterdam, Netherlands

Hands is a commissioned artwork created specifically for Fenix. It is now part of the museum’s permanent collection and is presented as part of its permanent exhibition. The work has been on view since May 16.

For artist Beya Gille Gacha, her hands became a true voice. She discovered that through their gestures, she could sometimes convey much more than with words. Gestures have the unique power to transcend the language barriers we often encounter.

Hands consists of eleven sculptures of – you guessed it – hands. Each one is covered in thousands of blue beads from Cameroon, her mother’s home country. Every hand makes a distinct gesture.
